Amagansett

Richard Webb of the East Hampton Town Parks Department reported on June 3 that the urinal and sink in the men’s room and the sink in the women’s room in the comfort station at Albert’s Landing Beach had been vandalized. Repairs will cost at least $1,000.

East Hampton Town

Two Springs women, neighbors and mothers respectively of a young teenaged boy and girl, came to blows late Friday night. Called to quell the ruckus, police said Teresa Aguire of Atwell Street and Liliana Chacon of Crystal Drive had minor injuries. Neither woman pressed charges.

East Hampton Village

An East Hampton man left his Specialized-brand silver-colored mountain bike in the rear parking lot at Citarella at about 7 a.m. on June 20. When he returned three hours later it was missing. The bike, which has a small compass near its gear shifter, is valued at $750.

The owner of property on Lily Pond Lane called police near midnight on June 22 to report a car speeding down the road. Police drove there but didn’t locate it.

The East Quogue operator of an ice cream truck was ticketed on Lee Avenue for peddling without a permit last Thursday afternoon.

Police went to Main Beach last Thursday afternoon to check on a report that there was a whale in the water that wasn’t moving. The whale was gone when they arrived.

Police went to a Georgica Close residence late last Thursday night after receiving a complaint about a barking dog. The owner said he hadn’t realized that he had left the animal in the yard “and apologized for the noise.” No citation was issued.

A California man received a summons for having a fire outside of a metal container on Main Beach Friday night.

A Buell Lane couple complained on Saturday morning that their neighbors sit outside by their pool late at night and talk loudly. The pool is right outside the couple’s bedroom window.

A LaForest Lane woman called police Saturday morning complaining that she could hear a table saw. Police arrived, heard nothing, and advised her that the village code does not prohibit construction between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

Another complaint about noise from a construction site, however, did draw a summons Saturday. Police said a Meadow Way property was being worked on after the 3 p.m. cutoff.

Montauk

When Grant Monahan went to open his Ditch Witch food trailer June 17, he found the lock damaged and evidence that the trailer had been entered at some point during the proceeding four days. Mostly missing was candy, he said, with the thief showing a preference for AirHeads. Mr. Monahan estimated repair at $100.

Amy Whitlock, a cab driver, had her black leather saddlebag stolen by a fare at around midnight on June 11. An Apple iPad mini was in the bag along with her driver’s license and personal documents. Police escorted her to Liar’s Saloon and to Sloppy Tuna to see if she could spot the apparent thief, but she was not  successful. They then attempted to ping the iPad, but it was either turned off or had a dead battery.

An active investigation by police is underway to find the source of flyers that read “no parking on this road,” which have been left on cars on Prospect Hill Lane off East Lake Drive recently. The person responsible also seems to have poured an abrasive chemical on the roofs of the targeted cars, causing paint damage. A late model Nissan Altima was damaged in this manner overnight on June 19.

Police were busy in and around the Memory Motel early Sunday morning. Officers broke up a fight in the pen area outside a little before 2 a.m. Minutes later, Jaclyn Questedy, who has a Ditch Plain address, reported that her rose gold Apple iPhone 6A in a pineapple case had been lifted from her back pocket.

A silver Apple iPad mini and its cover were reported stolen by a guest at a Second House Road house on Sunday. Isabelle Mediavilla did not want to press charges, and it was hard to tell from the heavily redacted report whether the iPad had been returned.

Aborvitae thieves struck on Homeward Lane Thursday night, making off with two small trees that Maureen Taylor intended to plant on the part of the property fronting East Lake Drive.

Geraldine Corbett, who lives in an apartment a stone’s throw away from the Montauk Police Department substation on South Euclid Street, told police last Thursday that items had been moved around by someone unknown. Police listed the incident in a heavily redacted report as criminal trespass.

Springs

Glen Leitch, who has a house on Old Stone Highway, went to Louse Point Beach on Friday to find the Sport Fisher kayak he had left there three weeks earlier was gone. The kayak, model 90121, was gray, new, and had two seats and sticker number 32 from the East Hampton Town Trustees on the bow.

A 2014 Toyota Tacoma belonging to Ann Grabowski, which was parked between the Springs School kindergarten and youth buildings on the evening of June 2, was vandalized with deep scratches. She estimated  repair would run about $1,000.

Long Days on the Fire Line In Orange County

East Hampton and Amagansett firefighters volunteered to head north last week to help fight a 5,000-acre wildfire in Orange County, N.Y., not once but twice, battling unfamiliar terrain to do so. “They fight fires completely differently than we do when we have a brush fire,” the Amagansett chief said.
