Sometime between Aug. 5 and Friday afternoon, someone climbed a fence to get into a storage area at the Balcuns Service Station and entered a 2009 Pontiac. Vincent Balcuns told East Hampton Town police the trespasser had removed license plates, which were inside the car, and taken some clothing.

A red one-man Perception kayak made by Carolina was stolen from outside Gordian Raacke’s Middle Highway house overnight Aug. 16. Mr. Raacke valued the kayak at $400.

A Petersberg, Ind., woman came to the lobby of police headquarters on Aug. 17 to report that her car had been vandalized. The woman, whose name was not released, told an officer she had been driving past a road-work crew somewhere near Route 114 and Toilsome Lane. “Apparently I was going too fast, because the flagger motioned me to slow down before he struck my vehicle with a traffic wand,” she was quoted as saying. When an officer pressed her to pinpoint the location, she couldn’t do so and became irate. “I can’t believe you’re not going to do anything about this! This is why people get shot,” she reportedly said before storming out. Police checked the area, but did not see a work crew.

Police helped free a raccoon from a garbage can outside a Chauncey Close house on the morning of Aug. 16.

An Amagansett man who left his mountain bicycle unlocked Sunday morning outside Stop and Shop on Newtown Lane came out of the store 10 minutes later to find it missing. James Brew valued the gray-and-black bike, which has a broken left-hand brake, at $200.

A Great Neck man, Robert Lynn, and a Manhattan woman, Carol Dingler, were allegedly parked outside Stop and Shop in spaces designated for handicapped parking last Thursday afternoon. Police confiscated their handicap placards and issued them summonses, saying the plate numbers on the cards did not match the license plates.

A summons was issued to a woman Saturday morning for allegedly having a dog off a leash in a restricted area on Georgica Beach. Another summons was written out for a Riverhead man for allegedly peddling ice cream without a license near Main Beach last Thursday evening.

Montauk

A taxi driver got into a dispute with valets at Gurney’s Resort and Spa on Aug. 14. The driver, who hailed from Smithtown, told police one of them had slapped his hand, knocking his iPhone 6 to the ground and damaging it. Police checked a Gurney’s surveillance video and reported it confirmed the staff’s side of the story, which was that the cab driver was parked in a spot he had repeatedly been warned not to stay in and that a valet, while opening a door to a Cadillac being parked next to the taxi, had inadvertently struck the cabbie’s hand, knocking the phone. The driver was warned not to return to Gurney’s or he would be reported for trespassing.

On the night of Aug. 1 Roger Coleman of Plandome told police he had been accosted at Gurney’s by three 17-year-old males, but no arrests were forthcoming.

A 2015 Chevrolet belonging to Kevin Fee disappeared during the early morning hours of Aug. 1. Mr. Fee, who owns a house on East Lake Drive, had loaned the car to an employee, Alexandar Munoz of West Lake Drive. Mr. Munoz had arrived home a little after midnight. When he went out later that morning, the car was gone. Police found the car parked outside the Malibu Motel on South Elmwood Avenue. Nothing was missing, and there was no damage to the vehicle. Mr. Fee did not file a complaint.

Ronald Sancho, who lives on East Lake Drive, reported that the navy-blue flag with Donald J. Trump’s name on it, which he was displaying outside his driveway, had been vandalized overnight on Aug. 15. He said it would cost $12 to replace.

Sag Harbor

A cab ride from the Stephen Talkhouse club to a Walker Avenue house resulted in a call to police on Monday from Sharif Umar, the driver, who said five women had agreed to pay $80 but refused. One of the women, Katelyn MacDonald, told police she had not agreed to that amount, and a compromise of $60 apparently was reached. However, the women refused to pay the driver anyway, and went off.

Emily T. Toy came into Division Street headquarters Monday afternoon. She reported an incident that she said occurred at about 3 a.m. while she was in a parking lot near Murf’s Tavern. She said two youths in dark clothing had splashed her with water, causing her flip-flops to come off. When she tried to retrieve them, she said one of the youths may have reached into her handbag because when she went into Murf’s she found $35 gone.

A vacant Quail Lane house has seen its fenced-in pool visited by trespassers recently. Gregory Griffin, the caretaker, told police he had noticed on Aug. 1 that the pool cover had been disturbed and some equipment moved around. Not thinking anything of it, he put the items back in their rightful places, and went to the city, where he lives when he is not in Springs. When he returned on Aug. 11, the pool shed was open and an empty bottle of bleach as well as an empty bottle of wine had been left behind. Nothing appeared to have been stolen, and the house was not entered. Police said they would keep their eye on the property.

Long Days on the Fire Line In Orange County

East Hampton and Amagansett firefighters volunteered to head north last week to help fight a 5,000-acre wildfire in Orange County, N.Y., not once but twice, battling unfamiliar terrain to do so. “They fight fires completely differently than we do when we have a brush fire,” the Amagansett chief said.
