Amagansett

Henry Kessler said he mailed two checks to Compton Air Conditioning, both in the amount of $1,500, for work on a building in the Bronx on Sept. 8.  They had cleared by Sept. 13, but the owner of the company said he had not received them. Mr. Kessler contacted his bank.

East Hampton 

Squatters apparently have been living in a house on Three Mile Harbor Road that had been foreclosed and abandoned for several months. Sometime between Aug. 1 and Sept. 13, it appeared that people entered the house, spray-painted the walls, and made some holes in them. While the house was already in poor condition, the damage was new. 

East Hampton Village

An East Hampton man went to police headquarters to report a road rage incident on Sept. 17 at about 7 p.m. He said an unknown man, who appeared to be in his mid-50s, was driving a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when he bumped into the passenger-side mirror of his car while attempting to merge into its lane. The East Hampton man, who was not named, followed the driver and parked in front of a house where the pickup was for approximately five minutes until he approached the man’s truck and then drove off. 

A dolphin was found dead at Two Mile Hollow Beach last Thursday at about 3:40 p.m. Police contacted the Riverhead Foundation, but as the officer was leaving, the dolphin was washed back into the surf. 

Montauk 

Brian Stuckart heard a loud bang outside his house on South Etna Avenue on Sept. 13 at about 11 p.m. and saw a dark colored sedan, possibly a Cadillac, stopped by two mailboxes that it apparently had just mowed down. Mr. Stuckart approached the driver, who drove away. He followed the car until Old Montauk Highway. 

Someone removed a 12-inch galvanized chain that blocks the driveway to the beach access on Old Montauk Highway across from Wood Drive between Sept. 13 and 19. Iris Mitchell, who belongs to the Hither Hills Homeowners Beach Association, which she said owns the rights to beach accesses along Old Montauk Highway, said it cost $53.74 to replace the chain. 

Approximately $700 worth of cosmetics were stolen from Noreen F. Cassidy’s room at Solé East on South Emerson Avenue on Sept. 15. Ms. Cassidy, who hails from Shirley, went to the Montauk police precinct two days later and reported that she had hired a woman to watch her 2-year-old niece during a wedding reception, and that is when the makeup disappeared. 

A copper weather vane, in the shape of a fish,  was swiped from Debbie Kassay’s front yard on Glenmore Avenue on Sept. 18, but the person who took it claimed he thought it was garbage. Ms. Kassay told police a Toyota Corolla pulled into her driveway and a man got out and took the weather vane, which was lying on a planter in front of her garbage. A friend, who spotted the car in Amagansett the next day, told Ms. Kassay, who called police. Police spoke to the driver, who admitted taking the vane, saying he thought it was being thrown away. An officer confirmed that the weather vane had been returned earlier that morning, and Ms. Kassay declined to press charges. 

The rear windshield on Nesha Abarno’s 2004 Toyota Camry parked on East Lake Drive on Sunday morning was damaged by a person she believes threw a large rock at the car because she refused to drive him home from Rick’s Crabby Cowboy. It will cost $350 to repair the windshield. 

Sag Harbor

The owner of a boat docked in a slip at Marine Park filed a report on Sunday saying someone had defecated in its aft head. The boat owner could not pinpoint the exact time it occurred.

Management at Baron’s Cove filed a report last Thursday over an unpaid room balance in the amount of $1,600. Matt Wheeler said a woman left without paying the remaining part of a bill for a stay between June 18 and 23. A payment plan has since been arranged.

Jeff Nichols, the principal of Pierson High School, reported that the librarian found a small bag of marijuana there on Friday. 

“So is this the elementary school?” and “Is this where all the little kids are coming from?” were questions asked of Tracy Anderson on Friday afternoon by a man in a black pickup truck. She reported the “odd questions” to police. 

Two bicycles, worth a total of $950, were reported stolen from the rack in front of Bay Street Theater on Friday. Morris Stoker said he had left two bikes there on Sept. 7. It turned out that one was at the police station, but the other is still missing. 

A man punched another man in the face, rendering him unconscious in front of Page restaurant on Main Street and then fled on Saturday at about 12:50 a.m. The victim was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. Police said the assault is under investigation. 

Springs

Louise Feinsot told police the telephone land line was not working when she arrived at her Harbor Hill Lane house on Friday. She checked the connection and found someone had removed the wires from the modem, interrupting the internet. Police said there was no forced entry and nothing else was disturbed or missing. 

A Napoleon Prestige Pro 665 stainless steel grill was stolen from the side deck of a house on Copeces Lane on Sept. 14 or 15. Robert White said he had purchased it for $3,700 just a few months ago. He last saw it on the deck at noon on Sept. 14.
