James Barrett Lucas of Southampton, 52, has been in the county jail in Riverside since Saturday, charged with three felonies related to driving while intoxicated.Early Saturday morning, East Hampton Village police, who had been following Mr. Lucas’s 1995 Buick east on Pantigo Road, pulled him over as the car swerved across lane lines. He reportedly failed a roadside sobriety test before being taken back to Cedar Street headquarters, where, police said, a breath test produced a reading of .15 of 1 percent, nearly double the legal limit.Mr. Lucas, who has had two D.W.I. convictions within the past 10 years, was additionally charged with unlicensed driving at the felony level. According to police, his license was revoked after the prior convictions, and his driving privileges have been suspended at least 10 times.He was arraigned later that morning before East Hampton Town Justice Lisa R. Rana. She reviewed his rap sheet. “You’ve had four prior felony convictions and four prior misdemeanor convictions,” she said. “You’ve had multiple failure-to-appear bench warrants.”The district attorney’s office had recommended bail of $20,000. Justice Rana raised the amount to $30,000. Mr. Lucas is scheduled to be brought back to the courthouse today.East Hampton Town police arrested two women and one man last week on drunken-driving charges. Sarah K. Acciavatti, 33, of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., was clocked at 44 miles per hour driving through Amagansett, police said, when they began following her 2013 Ford, and at 70 m.p.h. entering the Napeague stretch.“I had one beer before I left Philadelphia,” she told the arresting officer. Her breath test at headquarters in Wainscott, however, produced a reading of .17. Justice Rana, noting that the woman had a prior alcohol-related charge on her record, set bail at $750, which was posted.Bernice Laure Autin of Sag Harbor, 29, was charged early Friday morning. She was driving erratically, said the town police officer who stopped her 2001 Ford on North Main Street near Indian Hill Road. She initially refused to stop, according to the report, and village police were called in for assistance. She eventually pulled over in front of White’s Apothecary on Main Street, was arraigned within a few hours, and posted the $500 bail set by Justice Rana.Late Sunday night, Tiaghe Raphael Craine, 22, of Springs was stopped while driving on Napeague in the Beach Hampton area. Police said his breath test at headquarters produced a .15 reading. Mr. Craine, who reportedly told them he had been drinking beer in Hampton Bays at the Boardy Barn, was freed without bail, in a nod to his connection to the community.
