Two Hurt in Jeep Rollover

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 07:11

A rollover on Abraham’s Path in East Hampton a little before midnight Saturday resulted in an eye injury to a Connecticut man, who was taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment while under arrest on a charge of drunken driving.

East Hampton Town police found Miles A. Bouckoms of Farmington, 28, on the side of the road by the upside-down 2003 Jeep Wrangler, along with a female passenger, who had an injured wrist. The accident occurred on a fairly sharp curve a little south of the intersection of Abraham’s Path with Accabonac Road.

According to Detective Sgt. Greg Schaefer, the two maintained that the accident happened when Mr. Bouckoms swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle. Police found no sign of a near-collision, however, nor of the other vehicle.

Mr. Bouckoms was asked to take a roadside breath test but declined, according to police, who summoned an ambulance to take the pair to the hospital. Neither injury was considered life-threatening.

Mr. Bouckoms will be arraigned next Thursday on the charge of misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. Because his driver’s license had expired, he was also charged with unlicensed driving, a violation.

New York State troopers stopped an East Hampton man on Sunrise Highway Friday for swerving across lane lines and wound up charging him with driving under the influence of drugs. Mark A. Masone, 40, was also said to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was booked at state police headquarters in Riverside and released on an appearance ticket for arraignment Monday in Southampton Town Justice Court.
