Thu, 05/23/2019 - 07:22

East Hampton Village police have released information about an accident that occurred on Egypt Beach in the early hours of June 27 and sent a Sagaponack teen to the hospital.

Grace Gill, 19, whose name had been previously withheld by police, fell out of the front passenger door of a 1981 American Motors Jeep being driven on the sand by Angel N. Santamaria, 21, of Forest Grove, Ore. According to the police, after she fell, the back wheels of the Jeep ran over her. Mr. Santamaria, who had four other passengers in the back of the Jeep, stopped and went to Ms. Gill, who, he told police, “was complaining of pain and having difficulty breathing” but “did not want to call an ambulance.” She was taken to the hospital several hours later in a private vehicle. Information about her condition was not available.

The four passengers, all aged 19 or 20, told police they did not see what happened. Mr. Santamaria was cited for leaving the scene where an accident involving personal injury occurred.
