Thu, 11/14/2019 - 11:41

In response to community complaints, East Hampton Town police went undercover on the afternoon of Nov. 3 and arrested a woman who was selling cigarettes in the town park at Abraham’s Path in Amagansett.

Detective Sgt. Dan Toia said his department had received “ongoing community complaints” about a woman selling alcohol and cigarettes to under-age youths in the park. A plainclothes officer caught the woman, Rosa G. Quituisaca Suconota of Amagansett, 45, selling a pack of Marlboro Gold cigarettes.

She was charged with a misdemeanor under the New York State Tax Law for possessing or transporting unstamped cigarettes. She had in her possession 14 packs of unstamped cigarettes, known as loosies, which she was offering for individual sale, according to police. She was also charged with peddling without a license.

She was released on her own recognizance and will be arraigned in East Hampton Town Justice Court on Nov. 27.

In other arrests this week, an East Hampton teen was charged with grand larceny Sunday night after he stole a bicycle, according to East Hampton Village police. A witness reported seeing a man take a bicycle from Newtown Lane and ride off to the north, and a police sergeant, following the witness’s description, found Jahmel T. Moseley, 19, on Accabonac Road, though he was without the bike.

The witness confirmed that the teen was the one who took the bike, and Mr. Moseley told police where he had left it, on North Main Street. In addition to the grand larceny charge he faces a count of criminal possession of stolen property, both felonies. He was held overnight for arraignment.

Village police also arrested Gabriel A. Peralta Brito, 30, of Springs, after he admitted to taking someone’s credit card number and using it to buy Apple AirPods online. He was charged with unlawful possession of personal identification, a misdemeanor, and released on his own recognizance. He will be arraigned on Dec. 19.
