Motorcyclist Killed in Water Mill Crash

Southampton Town police detectives are investigating what caused a fatal motorcycle accident near the intersection of Little Noyac Path and Deerfield Road in Water Mill on Saturday.

Update, 7:30 p.m.: Southampton Town police identified the motorcyclist who died in an accident in Water Mill on Saturday afternoon as Jason M. Malak, 54, of New York City. 

According to police, Mr. Malak was operating a 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle when it hit a tree on Deerfield Road, near Little Noyac Path, at about 2:15 p.m. Police officers found the motorcycle mangled against a tree. Mr. Malak "had apparently been thrown from the motorcycle upon impact with the tree," police said in a statement on Saturday evening.

Officers tried to render him aid, but his injuries were too serious and he was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police are investigating the cause of the accident and have asked anyone with information about it to call Southampton Town's Detective Division at 631-702-2230.

Originally: A motorcyclist was killed in an accident in Water Mill on Saturday afternoon, according to Southampton Town police.

Lt. Susan Ralph said detectives are investigating the fatal crash. No further information was immediately available.

The Bridgehampton Fire Department responded to the scene of a motorcycle accident at Little Noyac Path and Deerfield Road at 2:18 p.m. While an ambulance and helicopter were initially called, they were soon canceled. 

Fire police personnel have shut down the road in the area of the crash.

Somehow, said the 80-year-old man, a person on the dating platform had gotten his phone number and demanded $2,000 from him, threatening to tell his family he was using the site if he did not comply.
