Waited Until the Police Came

Thu, 03/05/2020 - 12:01

Another motorist reported an erratic driver heading west on Montauk Highway back on Feb. 11, leading to a drunken-driving arrest of a man previously convicted for the same offense.

After making the 911 call to East Hampton Town police at 10:30 p.m., the caller followed the 2010 Toyota into the parking lot at 482 Montauk Highway in Amagansett and waited until the police arrived. The Toyota driver, Jose N. Urizar-Reyes, 30, appeared intoxicated, according to his arrest report, and performed poorly on all field sobriety tests. His blood alcohol level was reportedly .18 or above, leading to an aggravated D.W.I. charge. He was placed under arrest at 11:06 p.m.

A check of his criminal history revealed a conviction in Southampton Town Justice Court for driving while intoxicated on Oct. 3, 2016. Because the convic- tion occurred within 10 years, Mr. Urizar-Reyes was charged with felony aggravated D.W.I. He was held overnight and arraigned before East Hampton Town Justice Lisa R. Rana, then released on his own recognizance.

On Saturday at about 5:30 p.m., town police charged Juan P. Delgado Lenis, 40, of Riverhead with misdemeanor D.W.I. An officer on patrol spotted him driving a 2004 Toyota west on Montauk Highway, near Stephen Hand’s Path, moving erratically and failing to keep within his lane. He was held overnight for arraignment on Sunday. East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky released him on his own recognizance.
