One Dodgy Intersection

Thu, 08/20/2020 - 12:11

Alejandro Traslavina of East Hampton, 36, driving a 2013 Ford pickup on Montauk Highway Saturday afternoon, "looked down to get a water bottle," he told East Hampton Town police, and collided with the vehicle ahead, a 2015 Jeep belonging to Luz Galviz of Hampton Bays, 55. It happened at the light at the Wainscott-Northwest Road intersection, where such accidents are not uncommon.

The Jeep was propelled into the car ahead, owned by Christina Witt of Hampton Bays, 39, and sustained damage in both front and back. Ms. Witt complained of stomach pain and was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital by Bridgehampton ambulance. Ms. Galviz refused medical attention for chest pain.

Peter Gundersen, 70, of Amagansett was turning left from Indian Wells Highway onto Bluff Road on the afternoon of Aug. 11, when, he told police, "a pedestrian walked into front passenger side corner bumper" of his 2017 Chevrolet pickup truck. Mr. Gundersen also said the sun was shining in his face, making it difficult to see. The pedestrian, Maysaa Halloway, 40, of Sag Harbor complained of pain in her hip, but declined medical attention.

Dimitri Simonovic of East Hampton, 24, was driving north on Town Lane when a family of bicyclists emerged from behind a stopped vehicle at the Accabonac Road intersection. Eight-year-old Martin Bressler of East Hampton collided with the car's front fender and sustained minor bruises to his left elbow. Mr. Simonovic told police the cyclists had not stopped at the intersection's stop sign, though Martin's father said the driver had been speeding. Paramedics treated the child, and with the consent of his father, further medical attention was refused.
