Amagansett
On July 21, two days after reporting a broken-in bathroom window and slashed tires, Melissa Steele and Michael Smith of 69 Montauk Highway were targeted again. That afternoon, Ms. Steele saw a man out back of the property, and at the same time Mr. Smith received a message saying "Here." He told police he has been receiving harassing text messages for weeks, referencing his girlfriend, Melissa, with no idea as to who or why. The intruder left after 10 or 15 minutes, Ms. Steele told police.
Leif Larson of Amagansett parked his gray 2019 Dodge Ram in the Napeague beach lot on July 26 and returned to find his white iPad Pro, in a brown leather case, gone. A search of the area did not turn it up.
East Hampton
Timothy Tyler found a rental listing on Craigslist for 155 Cedar Street, but only after paying a deposit did he visit the house to find that it was a scam; the real homeowner knew nothing about it. Mr. Tyler wanted the incident documented and said he would let police know if he got his money back.
East Hampton Village
An Ocean Avenue resident called police on the evening of July 27 to say something large had fallen from the sky and into the water, where it was floating. It turned out to be a bunch of balloons.
An employee of Petit Blue on Park Place took her dog to work on July 28 and called police that afternoon, saying it had been two hours since she last saw it. She said it might have left the shop while she was helping customers. Police looked for what she described as a small white dog wearing a navy-blue sailor's outfit.
That same afternoon, an ex-employee of Guild Hall was seen sitting in his car in the parking lot there. When asked to leave, he parked across from the lot. Security signed a trespass affidavit and police advised the man to leave, which he did.
A damaged street light was noticed on July 29 outside 211 Main Street. Repair is estimated at over $1,000.
Three "Keep off the Grass" signs stolen from the Accabonac green on Accabonac Road last Thursday morning have since been replaced.
Last Thursday afternoon, a woman returned to her parked car in the lot behind 87 Newtown Lane to find a golf ball had struck the windshield, leaving numerous large circular cracks. The ball was found in the parking lot.
After being abandoned at 15 Railroad Avenue for a year, a bicycle cabled to a signpost was removed on Friday morning. With flat tires, a detached seat, and no brakes, "it was not rideable and had no value," the police report declared.
Officers asked the homeowner at 1 Georgica Road to turn down his music on Saturday afternoon, which he agreed to do.
On Sunday night, officers found a small gathering with open bottles of alcohol at Georgica Beach near Lily Pond Lane. Police located the "party planner" at the gathering with numerous bottles of wine and cited him for a code violation. The bottles were subsequently removed from the beach.
Montauk
Christine Balcuns went to police on July 27 to document the theft of her East Hampton Town 4x4 beach permit, which was removed from the bumper of her 2019 Jeep Wrangler at 11 McKinley Road. It could have been taken any time in the past few weeks, she said.
All the glass in the bottom half of a door at the Montauk Playhouse was smashed one night last week. The police report was mostly redacted, but indicated that security cameras may have captured the incident.
Jeffrey Borden's Tricross road bike was taken from outside his room at the Marram resort on the night of July 15. He signed a larceny affidavit and police said they would keep an eye out during their day tour.
Sag Harbor
A flashing light at 61 Richards Drive Friday afternoon that could have been a silent alarm turned out to be just a light flickering. Perhaps the bulb was going, police said.
Also that day, police questioned a homeless man, with whom they've had previous encounters, about why he was lying on the grass outside 22 Long Island Avenue. He said it was a nice day and that he was resting.
That evening, police met a man not wearing a mask as he got off a Suffolk Country transit bus on Main Street. He seemed intoxicated, so law enforcement supplied him with a mask and advised him to take the next bus.
An employee of the Romany Kramoris gallery who was fired on Friday morning was still refusing to leave the premises around 9 that night. She claimed that the owner had shorted her last paycheck, but agreed to leave after police explained it was a civil matter and advised her to get an attorney.
A woman told police Sunday morning that ever since March, when she rented a room at 320 Main Street, her landlord has continuously harassed her and now refuses to return her security deposit of $500. She has already contacted an attorney.
A man was reported urinating in public on Sunday afternoon at the side of the laundromat on Nassau Street. Police caught up to the man, who was walking toward the bridge with his bicycle and who admitted it. Police said that since they had not seen it, no further action would be taken beyond a warning not to do it again.
A Madison Street homeowner who police said has had issues with her next-door neighbor over the years, complained on Saturday afternoon of a camera-drone flying above her property. The drone landed at the neighbor's, who said he was using it to make a survey of his own property, which he said a building inspector had advised him to do. Later it was found that the inspector had in fact never approved this.
On Saturday evening, asked why her gray BMW was illegally parked on the grass at Bay Street, a woman told police the car sometimes lurches forward unexpectedly. Police moved the car to a legal parking spot, where it stayed until it was towed on Monday.
There was a power outage in part of her house on John Street Sunday evening, and a woman called police. The officer found a fuse box and restored the electricity.
Two boaters had a rocky time of it on Sunday. The first struck some rocks in the bay and beached to avoid sinking, after his 22-foot Sea Ray started taking on water and incurred significant hull damage. Later that day, north of the breakwater, a 1996 Rinker hit rocks south of the channel, damaging its outer drive. The owner said he was headed east and missed a green buoy.
Kevin Martin of Jermain Avenue filed a report Sunday evening for his missing bike, a purple Huffy valued at $100, which had been removed from the side of his house that night without his knowledge.
Springs
Kevin Miller reported on the afternoon of July 26 that his wallet, which was hidden under a pile of clothes, had been stolen from the front passenger-side floor of his 2019 Ranger truck, parked at 719 Springs-Fireplace Road.
