On Friday, after receiving a complaint that a man had sexually abused a young girl multiple times over a 10-month time period, East Hampton Town police charged Jose Xiomar Vijil Villanueva, 49, of Bridgehampton, with a felony count of sexual conduct with a child under 13.

Police reports say the abuse took place between Sept. 1, 2020, and July 11, 2021, at a house on Waterhole Road in Springs. Mr. Vijil also faces a misdemeanor count of acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17.

Detective Sgt. Daniel Toia said the suspect was arrested at his workplace, following an investigation. He was arraigned on Saturday by Justice Steven Tekulsky, who turned him over to the custody of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office after he failed to post bail, set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.

Mr. Vijil was to appear virtually in town court this morning.
