A Hole in the Wall

Thu, 01/28/2021 - 08:02

John Sanders of Wainscott, 20, was arrested at his home on the evening of Jan. 19 and charged with criminal mischief, intent to damage property. East Hampton Town police said an unnamed witness had called to report that Mr. Sanders, "while completing a phone call, did throw a cordless office phone at the drywall, causing a small hole in the wall, totaling value less than $250."

The young man was issued an appearance ticket to report to Town Justice Court on Feb. 3.

There were no road-related arrests last week, though deer created trouble for three drivers. One car hit a deer on Montauk Highway in Amagansett, near the Old Montauk Highway intersection, at 6 p.m. on Jan. 20. Another run-in happened on Springs-Fireplace Road last Thursday at 8:30 p.m., near Cedar Ridge Drive in Springs, and the third on Friday at 2 p.m. near West Drive in East Hampton.

None of the drivers was injured. However, on Monday afternoon  Mavroudis Benis, 64, sustained facial bruises after Ralph Barone crossed the yellow lines on Flamingo Avenue near Manor Road in Montauk, where both men live. Mr. Barone told town police "his windshield suddenly fogged out and he could not see anything." Mr. Benis was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital by Montauk ambulance for treatment; his 2018 Ford pickup was towed by Marshall and Sons Service Station, which also towed Mr. Barone's 2016 Jeep.
