New York State troopers charged an East Hampton man on Jan. 5 with sex abuse involving an 11-year-old child, a first-degree Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

The crime took place about 20 years ago, police said, in the town of Southampton, and continued over the course of a year. According to Trooper Daniel Ahlgrim, a state police spokesman, the man, Daniel Aguilar, 42, was arrested in East Hampton after law enforcement received a complaint. He was arraigned the next morning in Southampton Town Justice Court and released on $10,000 bail to await a future court appearance.

No further information was released. The case remains open, as police believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with related information has been asked to call 631-756-3300; all calls will be kept confidential.
