East Hampton Village

A neighbor called police just after midnight Sunday to complain about loud music coming from a house on Jones Road. Someone inside said they didn’t realize that music playing inside the house was also blasting from the outdoor speakers, and turned them off.

A large tree limb fell onto Montauk Highway near Stephen Hand’s Path during Sunday night’s gusty rains. Police directed traffic until the roadway was clear.

Another downed tree, this time on Jericho Road, partially blocked the way on Sept. 28. The village removed it.

A Jeep got stuck in the sand on Main Beach last Thursday night, and police advised the driver to lower the air pressure in the tires. It worked.

Someone called police on the morning of Sept. 26 to complain about the driver of a tractor-trailer on Newtown Lane, citing erratic and possibly drunken driving. Police found the vehicle and determined that its driver was dead sober.

Her neighbor keeps complaining that she always parks her car too close to his antique vehicle, a Gingerbread Lane resident reported on Sept. 26, and he had been retaliating by loudly revving the vehicle at 6 every morning. Also, she said, he had been yelling at her and her family. She asked police not to contact the neighbor, which “might make things worse,” but did want it on record that she and her children were concerned.

Montauk

A woman called police Monday after receiving two “harassing” calls from someone who said they were calling from Rick’s Crabby Cowboy and knew where she lived, then hung up. The woman said she had no issues with anyone and just wanted the incident documented.

A caller told police on Sept. 27 that he had found a blue hand grenade near the bunker at Shadmoor State Park. It was half-buried in a hole next to the bunker, he said. State Park police were called to the spot to deal with the potentially explosive situation, but before they arrived a town police officer determined, very carefully, that the “grenade” was in fact a child’s toy.

Sag Harbor

A Deerfield Drive man called Sunday afternoon to say he was hearing noises in the attic, and not for the first time. Officers found no sign of forced entry or anything out of the ordinary, and heard no noises. They called the man’s son, who said he would come by to check on his father.

Sister Anne called Saturday evening after a floating dock washed up on the Bay Street beach by Cormaria Retreat House. Police contacted the owner, who said he would take care of it in the morning.

Police got a “suspicious vehicle” call last Thursday about a white pickup truck in the driveway of 127 Bay Street. A worker inside the house was found to be the owner.

A woman parked at Havens Beach last Thursday morning was asleep behind the wheel when police arrived on a routine patrol. She told them she was just taking a nap before work, and they moved on.

On the evening of Sept. 27, police made a wellness check on Harrison Street, where an 11-year-old boy told them he didn’t get his promised new bike from his father. The father told the officer that his son hadn’t held up his end of the deal — not done his homework or taken his medicine. In the end, the boy’s mother picked him up.

Springs

Jason Charron of Pembroke Drive believes that an Amazon package containing a $9 book was stolen from his mailbox on Sept. 22.

Wainscott

A downed tree was reported to be leaning into a power line on Wainscott Stone Road near Fernwood Drive Sunday afternoon, prompting concerns of a fire and calls to police. The tree was actually leaning into phone lines.

Long Days on the Fire Line In Orange County

East Hampton and Amagansett firefighters volunteered to head north last week to help fight a 5,000-acre wildfire in Orange County, N.Y., not once but twice, battling unfamiliar terrain to do so. “They fight fires completely differently than we do when we have a brush fire,” the Amagansett chief said.

“It could have gone worse. We’re lucky that I have officers here that weren’t shot,” said Police Chief Jeff Erickson at Friday’s East Hampton Village Board meeting.
