He Was Blocking Entrance

Thu, 02/03/2022 - 09:13

Carlos Guarango of East Hampton was sitting in his gray 2004 Mazda at around 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 23, blocking the entrance to the Sportime parking lot off Abraham’s Path in Amagansett. A town police officer approached to see if the 25-year-old driver was having car trouble, but reported instead that his breath smelled strongly of alcohol, and that he subsequently performed poorly on standard field sobriety tests.

Mr. Guarango was arrested half an hour later and charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. He was held for the rest of the day and overnight, and appeared in East Hampton Justice Court the next morning, where he was released on his own recognizance. He will be back in court on Feb. 24.
