Wed, 08/17/2022 - 18:04

Yale B. Mitchel of Tenafly, N.J., was riding his bicycle Sunday morning on the shoulder of Montauk Highway near Beach Plum Court in Amagansett when he crashed into a 2008 Toyota owned by Hermess Rubi Hernandez of Medford, which was parked on the shoulder. Mr. Mitchel, 69, was ejected from his bike upon impact, and smashed into the car’s rear windshield, breaking it. He was wearing a helmet, fortunately, but was transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital to be treated for lacerations and unspecified pain.

Anthony Hyatt of East Hampton was driving a 1999 Chevrolet dump truck on the morning of Aug. 8 when he rear-ended a 2018 Honda Suburban driven by Julianne Moseley, on Main Street near Woods Lane in the village. Ms. Moseley, also of East Hampton, complained of neck pain. Medical technicians were dispatched, but she refused on-site medical attention and said she would go to the hospital on her own.

On the evening of Aug. 9, Isabella Cuomo of New York City was southbound in a 2020 Jeep Suburban on Route 114 when a 2020 Suburban driven by Scott Kaplan of Wyoming pulled out from Harness Lane to make a left turn but collided with her car. Ms. Cuomo told East Hampton Town police she’d been traveling at 50 miles per hour; Mr. Kaplan stated that she was driving at a “high rate of speed.” Both drivers suffered minor head and neck pain and were checked out by E.M.S. personnel before refusing further medical attention.

East Hampton and Amagansett firefighters volunteered to head north last week to help fight a 5,000-acre wildfire in Orange County, N.Y., not once but twice, battling unfamiliar terrain to do so. “They fight fires completely differently than we do when we have a brush fire,” the Amagansett chief said.
