David Knibb of Sag Harbor, 51, was charged last Thursday evening with felony assault on a police officer after police tried to arrest him on charges of driving while intoxicated.
Mr. Knibb was found sleeping in a car parked on Long Beach Road at about 9 p.m., “slumped over the driver’s side open window,” according to a release from the Southampton Town Police Department.
When awakened, he was reportedly uncooperative with officers and refused to exit the vehicle. While police struggled to extract him from the car, he allegedly “grabbed and twisted one of the officer’s fingers, causing sprained fingers and a fractured wrist.”
Charged with D.W.I., resisting arrest, and assault in the second degree with intent to cause injury to an officer, he was taken to town police headquarters and held over for a morning arraignment.
According to online records, Mr. Knibb is the principal at D. Knibb Painting, a limited liability corporation at 42 Joseph Francis Boulevard in Sag Harbor.
Alcohol was also cited in two other arrests last week, underscoring the concept of past actions dictating present consequences.
Marco Urgiles-Pinacela of Ossining, N.Y., 29, was not supposed to be driving at all when East Hampton Village police stopped his 2020 Ford Mustang Sunday afternoon in front of 110 Pantigo Road, near Methodist Lane. Mr. Urgiles-Pinacela’s license, according to the report, was suspended late last year for driving while ability impaired by alcohol. That landed him a misdemeanor charge of aggravated unlicensed operation; he is due in East Hampton Justice Court on Sept. 14. His car was impounded.
Last Thursday night, Carlos Pucha-Guaman of Springs, 23, was charged with second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor, after town police said he’d violated a 2021 court order forbidding him from being intoxicated while in the presence of a person holding an order of protection against him. Mr. Pucha-Guaman is awaiting trial in that matter, under a pre-trial supervised relief order signed by Town Justice Steven Tekulsky.
