A Nissan pickup truck with an unsecured ladder on its roof rack caught the attention of a driver on Accabonac Road on Saturday afternoon. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.

East Hampton Village

Two officers responded to a report of a road hazard on March 28 at around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Newtown Lane. A busted box of screws had spilled its contents into the street. The officers picked them all up.

Later that afternoon, a pellet gun caused a stir when it was mistaken for a handgun. Police questioned its owner, a 34-year-old East Hampton man on a bicycle who had just been shopping at the CVS on Pantigo Road. He told police he’d kept the pellet gun in a bag mounted on the front of his bike, but that he removed it to place his purchases in the bag. Thinking it suspicious, a witness called police. Coincidentally, the man’s father happened to be driving past the store at that moment, and he pulled over to find out what was happening. The father had warned the son “numerous times” to leave the pellet gun at home, he told police. The son agreed to comply from now on.

Montauk

A red sedan fled the scene of a minor car crash shortly after midnight on Sunday near the intersection of South Delrey Road and South Dewey Place. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.

Two 20-year-old men visiting from Ithaca, N.Y., learned from police on Sunday evening that climbing the radar tower at Camp Hero is not permitted. A parks employee had seen them inside the fenced-off area and called in the law.

An officer stationed on Montauk Highway near South Delhi Street observed a person on a blue dirt bike “doing wheelies and driving dangerously” on the morning of March 29. The biker, who reportedly had “long, blonde curly hair” under his or her helmet, seemed to be taunting the officer, but nearly fell over at one point. The officer cut off pursuit when the biker turned down a dirt road and sped away.

On March 26, someone broke into the basement of the Memory Motel and destroyed more than $250 worth of bottles of Jagermeister and Maker’s Mark liquors. Employees cleaned up the mess.

Northwest Harbor

A caller complained about “a large group of people” playing soccer and listening to loud music on Friday at around 7:30 p.m. at the old Boys Harbor property. As police arrived to investigate what the caller described as “an ongoing problem that happened all last spring and summer,” the crowd was already in the process of leaving.

Sag Harbor

An officer was able to cover up an open manhole on Montauk Avenue Extension without incident on March 28, shortly after 4 in the afternoon.

The next day, a man wanted for using a stolen credit card at Southampton Books was spotted in the store’s Main Street location. With help from village police, he is now on the radar of the Southampton Village Police Department.

A Howard Street resident reported a suspicious package left near his mailbox Sunday afternoon. The package contained what appeared to be a child’s nightlight and a note calling him “inconsiderate,” and describing the light as “something to direct you to the bathroom in the wee, wee hours of the night.”

Springs

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Friday, a Runnymeade Drive homeowner told police he saw a stranger approach his front porch and survey packages that had been delivered. Nothing was reported missing.

Fresh graffiti was discovered on a building off Flaggy Hole Road on the evening of March 27. The cost to paint over it will be approximately $500.
