Man ‘Did Punch and Shatter’

Thu, 08/17/2023 - 10:29

East Hampton Town police charged a Montauk man with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, following an Aug. 8 incident at Gurney’s Montauk Resort and Seawater Spa.

Carlos Cabrera-Yanza, 40, “did punch and shatter a rear window on a Nissan SUV” at around 10 p.m. in the resort’s employee parking lot on Old Montauk Highway, according to the official report. He was said to have caused damage totaling about $500; criminal mischief is considered a felony if the damages are estimated to cost over $250.

A separate report concerning his arrest indicated that the S.U.V. belonged to the man’s ex-girlfriend, a 44-year-old East Hampton woman who now has an order of protection pending against him.

Mr. Cabrera-Yanza was arrested at his house about two hours later, and was held for a morning arraignment in East Hampton Town Justice Court, where Justice Lisa R. Rana released him on his own recognizance. He is due back in court next Thursday. C.S.
