Mon, 10/07/2024 - 11:16

Christian Gutierrez, a 21-year-old from East Hampton, died in a motorcycle accident in Riverhead on Sunday morning, according to Riverhead Town police.

Two motorcycles were involved in the crash, which police said happened on Old Country Road near Target around 8:21 a.m. Mr. Gutierrez was on a 2024 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R when it collided with a 2006 Yamaha R6 operated by Rodolfo Castillo, 54, of Southampton. Police did not provide any information about Mr. Castillo's condition in the release on Sunday.

"Mr. Gutierrez had numerous injuries and subsequently succumbed to those injuries on scene," police wrote. The Riverhead Police Department's detective division and the New York State police forensic investigation unit responded to the scene. There is no criminality suspected, but the investigation is ongoing and police have asked anyone with information connected to the accident to contact them at 631-727-4500.

Mr. Gutierrez was a 2021 graduate of East Hampton High School, which shared the news of his death Sunday evening with the school community. "Should students need additional support, our counselors, social workers, and psychologists are available," the high school principal, Sara Smith, wrote in a message.
