A 29-year-old East Hampton woman went to police headquarters on March 4 to report being the victim of sexual assault, stemming from an incident on Feb. 23 at a house in town.
A heavily redacted police report indicated a female friend was a possible witness to the crime, which is being investigated by detectives as a case of a first-degree criminal sex act under a provision indicating the victim was “incapable of consent by reason of being physically helpless.”
Suffolk County is among nine counties that have been early backers of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s Local Cops, Local Crimes proposal, a push to limit the actions of federal law enforcement in New York State.
