Hit Two Cars and Then Fled

Thu, 07/25/2024 - 09:12

John Engelhardt, 75, of East Hampton was traveling west through Amagansett in a red Ford Escape on the evening of June 16 when a black sedan lost control and swerved into oncoming traffic, spinning 180 degrees in the process and striking Mr. Engelhardt’s Ford, according to police reports released this week.

The collision, on Montauk Highway near Bunker Hill Road, allegedly caused the black sedan to do another 180-degree turn into the front of a gray Toyota Camry driven by Rahan Amir of Bay Shore, 26.

The black sedan fled the scene heading east prior to the arrival of the police.

Police said the Escape and the Camry both had “extensive front-end damage.”

Mr. Engelhardt was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital after a police evaluation, while his vehicle was towed by V&V Auto.
