Steven E. Skrynecki, the chief of the Nassau County Police Department, will be the next chief of the Southampton Town Police Department, while East Hampton Village Police Chief Gerard Larsen, who was one of the final candidates in the search, is staying put.

During a work session last Thursday, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman announced that Chief Skrynecki, a Southampton Town homeowner, had accepted an offer, “which I’m thrilled about,” he said.

Stephanie Bayless got up from a ledge near the front of the Stephen Talkhouse early on the morning of Aug. 18 to take a photograph of the cigarette machine. When she went back, she told police, her Tiffany purse, containing $270 in cash and two debit cards, was gone.

Police were summoned to Liar’s Saloon early Saturday to quell a fight. Kathryn Walker told them she had asked a group to leave the bar because of unruly behavior and the use of profane language. Before leaving, one of them dumped a pitcher of beer on her head.

The operator of an illegal nightclub in the basement of a house at 7 Muir Boulevard in East Hampton has agreed to pay a $20,000 fine in exchange for the criminal case against him in East Hampton Town Justice Court being adjourned.

Bob Sisk, an East Hampton Town employee driving a town-owned 2004 Ford pickup truck on Springs-Fireplace Road near Queen’s Lane in East Hampton on Monday afternoon, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with a 2004 Mercedes-Benz driven by Lisa Brown of East Hampton.

East Hampton Town police were called to quell a disturbance near Liar’s Saloon in Montauk early Sunday but ended up having to subdue a neighboring resident. According to police, Christopher S. Verity, 23, took a fighting stance against four officers, allegedly striking and kicking all four.

Police subdued him and placed him in the back of a patrol car, where he allegedly began kicking and head-butting the right rear door, damaging it. A misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief was added to one of resisting arrest.

Police were called to the Indian Wells Beach parking lot on the morning of Sept. 4, where Steve Dallal of Scarsdale, N.Y., had gone for an hour’s walk, leaving his wallet in the door panel of his unlocked 2006 Mercedes Benz. When he returned at 8:15, the wallet, which held $300 and many credit and debit cards, was gone.

Todd Bennett told police that during the night of Aug. 27, someone entered his garage, opened the two refrigerators there, emptied them of their contents, including eggs, tomatoes, and lobsters, and smashed them on the floor.

The owner of one of the larger taxi companies in Montauk, Exclusive Taxi, was arrested the night of Sept. 6 on aggravated drunken driving charges after the cab he was operating, according to police, struck another car on Montauk Highway on Napeague, then sped off.

A Sag Harbor man, David Wisner, 42, accused by police of choking his girlfriend early Friday morning until she passed out, was arrested later that day on a felony charge of strangulation.

Bobby Conte Thornton, 24, a recent transplant from the West Coast to Manhattan, was charged with drunken driving early Saturday morning on Cedar Street in East Hampton.

A decision could be announced as early as next week as to who the next chief of the Southampton Town Police Department will be.

Andreas and Caroline Deutschman’s 1976 Mercedes-Benz pickup truck, with advertising signs for their new nail salon, Fresh Cut Nails, on its sides, was vandalized on Aug. 31 in the Indian Wells Beach parking lot. The signs were damaged to the tune of $400 in repairs.

A New York City woman sharing a room at an Eastwood Court residence with two other women she did not know, in a house with multiple guests, reported the theft of her diamond ring on Aug. 28.

An East Hampton man was charged with misdemeanor drunken driving in Springs shortly before 3 a.m. yesterday after crashing a sport utility vehicle into a tree, seriously injuring his passenger.

Overnight on Aug. 19, someone walked onto the 17th green of the East Hampton Golf Club and pulled out the flag and ball cup. The manager of the club, Thomas Barnard, also told police that youths have been bike-riding on the course after closing hours all summer long, and asked for additional police patrols in the area.

East Hampton Village

A man with residences in Manhattan and East Hampton was issued a summons on the morning of Aug. 22 for allegedly walking two dogs off the leash in an area of Georgica Beach where dogs are required to be on the leash.

An East Hampton woman, Angelique M. Smith, 39, is facing two felony charges after a domestic altercation with her boyfriend on Aug. 22. East Hampton Town police accused Ms. Smith of repeatedly striking Levy Mwanza before hurling a flowerpot at his head and smashing the front window of his 2003 Ford.

Two women waiting in their taxicabs at the Montauk train station Friday for the arrival of the Cannonball had a brawl that ended with both of them charged with felony assault.

A Springs man who had been arrested at least twice previously on charges stemming from road rage incidents was charged again on Aug. 15.

Sometime between Aug. 5 and Friday afternoon, someone climbed a fence to get into a storage area at the Balcuns Service Station and entered a 2009 Pontiac. Vincent Balcuns told East Hampton Town police the trespasser had removed license plates, which were inside the car, and taken some clothing.

There were numerous arrests last week on drunken-driving charges, including four made overnight Saturday during a county-sponsored police sweep.

An East Hampton woman who was seriously injured on Aug. 6 when she and her boyfriend were struck by a car as they stood on the side of Sunrise Highway has had eight surgical procedures since the accident.

A Gurney’s Resort security guard who allegedly put a switchblade to a guest’s throat on Saturday was arrested about 24 hours later and charged with menacing and possession of an illegal weapon.

A silver and black Apple iPhone was stolen from a patron at the Stephen Talkhouse on Aug. 10. The next morning Joseph Rose told police he’d located the phone through his Find My Phone app, in a house on Norfolk Street in Springs. The phone then went dead, he said.

East Hampton

John Whitney’s kayak was stolen sometime between Aug. 8 and last Thursday, the second time in the last few weeks.

Sag Harbor police are seeking the public’s help in finding a man who fled the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Madison Street on Monday.

East Hampton Town police said one of those arrested, Nicholas Leguillow of Hewlett, 43, was taken to the hospital after his breath test produced a dangerously high reading.

A black Maserati parked outside Club Leo on Three Mile Harbor Road was vandalized overnight July 16. Yura Shabetayev of Manhattan estimated the deep scratch on its doors, apparently done with a key, would cost $1,000 to repair.

At some point between May 16 and Saturday a blue Dolphin kayak and two fiberglass paddles were stolen from Sharon Gajajiva’s front yard on Oakview Highway.

A Montauk man is in the county jail in Riverside facing a felony charge of criminal contempt, after allegedly violating an order of protection obtained by his brother.

An East Hampton woman was arrested on Tuesday in connection with a March incident involving attempted forgery.

Joseph R. Dowling of Sag Harbor, 24, has been indicted on two felony charges citing the sale of heroin to an undercover agent.

An Oakview Highway homeowner realized on July 23 that one of three kayaks he had stored near a shed in late June was missing. John Whitney described the kayak as a blue Wilderness Systems Pungo model, valued at $750.

Several Indian Hill Road residents have received voice-mail messages from someone posing as an agent of the Internal Revenue Service, demanding money.

After several weeks of numerous drunken-driving arrests, many following car crashes, last week was strikingly calm. One arrest followed a crash; another resulted from a traffic infraction.
