Sunday’s main event, the $30,000 Open Jumper Challenge, whose 14-effort course Granat designed, was won by Sydney Shulman Desiderio and Villamoura (a 15-year-old Selle Francais mare), who posted a double-clear score. An Israeli, Shulman Desiderio topped a field of 41 entries representing eight countries.

“With a horse like Villamoura, very rarely do I go full-tilt and not end up on the podium,” Shulman Desiderio told the show’s press officer, Marty Bauman. “I can probably count on one hand how many times I’ve been beaten after going as fast as I can.”

Mario Deslauriers, who competed in Sunday’s $30,000 Open Jumper Challenge at the Hampton Classic Horse Show, won its Grand Prix in 2019, besting his daughter, Lucy, in a jump-off. Craig Macnaughton

Laura Bowery of Bridgehampton rode the top two hunters, Cloud 9 and Margaux, in the $10,000 Marders Local Hunter Derby. Brianne Goutal-Marteau aboard Iladin Du Rouet was third.

The show is to continue throughout the week, with its daily hunter and jumper classes building up to the $400,000 Longines Hampton Classic Grand Prix at 2 p.m. Sunday.
