The East End Classic invitational track meet, which was held under mostly sunny skies at East Hampton High School Saturday, has certainly grown: There were 853 athletes this time around from 28 schools, its director, Yani Cuesta, said. The list included Longwood’s boys, the League VI champion, East Islip’s boys, the League V champion, Sachem East’s girls, the League II champion, and Southampton’s boys and girls, runners-up in League VIII.
No team scores were kept, but Cuesta, who coaches East Hampton’s girls team, which finished third in League V at 4-2, and Bonac’s boys coach, Sean Knight, said there was plenty to write home about.
Cuesta, in an emailed report, said concerning her girls team that Greylynn Guyer won the open 1,500-meter race in four minutes and 57.64 seconds, a personal record. C.J. Echavarria won the open 100 high hurdles. Sara O’Brien won the open 400 intermediate hurdles in a season-best 67.71 seconds. Alex Kolhoff won the open high jump at 5
feet 2 inches, a personal record, and the 4-by-400 relay team of Kolhoff, Vanessa Rizzo, Josie Mott, and Guyer won that event.
In addition, Vicky Chen placed second in the open pole vault at 8-6; K.K. Moore placed second in the open shot-put at 33 feet, a season-best, and third in the discus with a throw of 88-3, also a season-best; Leah McCarron finished third in the open shot-put at 32-1.
East Hampton’s top freshman-sophomore place-winners, Cuesta said, included Laura Martinez, who won the 1,500 and was second in the 400 in a personal-best 62.24, Chelsea Fromm, who won the 1,500 racewalk in a personal-record time of 9.35, and Maggie Greenwald, who was second in the 400 hurdles in a personal-record 71.73. Sydney Powers was second in the long jump at 15 feet, 4.5 inches, a personal best; Alessa Picco was second in the high jump at 4-6; Mott was second in the 1,500, and Lucia Mogavero was third in the triple jump at 32-1. Rizzo was third in the 800 and Sky Goulart was third in the 200.
Cuesta entered three girls in the pentathlon. Sophia Figueroa, a first-timer, placed fifth with 1,984 points; Sabina Piecyk, also a first-timer, placed seventh with 1,751 points, and Sierra Stumpf placed 10th with 1,626 points.

As for the boys, Knight said, “We got some standout performances: Benson Edman ran a 4:57.81 in the 1,600. Edmar Gonzalez-Nateras broke the 2-minute mark in the 800, placing third in 1:59.38. Sean Perez ran the 1,600 in 4:52.91. Max Bellenoue ran it in 4:53.69. Liam Knight ran the 400 in 52.1 seconds. Xavier Johnson placed second in the freshman-sophomore 400 with a time of 51.88 and Nelvin Suchite won the freshman-sophomore long jump with a leap of 18 feet 8 1/2 inches.” Also, Abe Stillman placed second in the pole vault at 12-foot-0, a career-best, and Jasper Samuelson broke the 5-minute mark in the freshman-sophomore 1,600 at 4:59 and change.

The county championship meet for boys and girls is to be held at Kings Park High School on Friday, May 30, at 2:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, Vinny Alversa, who coaches East Hampton High’s baseball team, was waiting Monday to hear how high his 14-4 team had been seeded in the county’s AA double-elimination tournament; ditto Melissa Edwards, the 11-7 softball team’s coach, and the Ross School’s boys tennis team was set to meet Bayport-Blue Point for the county’s small school’s championship at Shoreham-Wading River High School today at 3 p.m.
