Keen-eyed observers may have noticed an intriguing “available retail space” sign placed over the holidays at the Long Island Rail Road Station in East Hampton Village. The space, 613 square feet total, is divided between 488 square feet that will be shared with the Metropolitan Transit Authority, including a bathroom, and 125 feet of exclusive retail space.
“Retail opportunities range from newsstands and cafes to bookstores and full-service restaurants,” reads the M.T.A. Real Estate website.
Adult uses and the sale of certain items, like tobacco, are prohibited, said Lucas Bejarano, the media relations analyst for the M.T.A. “Minimum hours are required,” he wrote, in an email. “The tenant must keep the waiting area and restrooms, which form part of the premises, open for customers from 5 a.m. until 8 p.m., Monday through Sunday, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. If a tenant’s hours of operation include hours outside of the aforementioned times and dates, the waiting room and bathroom must also be made accessible to railroad customers during those hours.”
Mr. Bejarano said that an M.T.A. warehouse at the Amagansett Station is also available for rent. That space, north of the railroad tracks, and 1,200 square feet, is accessed by Old Stone Highway. The Southampton Village train station has a space available that’s similar to the East Hampton Village rental.
The M.T.A. will be accepting bids on the properties until Feb. 13.
