Feed the East End 2022, a campaign to raise money for food pantries across the region, has kicked off a virtual silent auction featuring more than 75 prizes donated by local businesses and prominent community members.

“It is hard to believe in an area as wealthy as this that anyone can go without a meal. . . . Across the East End, literally hundreds of local families depend on food pantries every week for help,” Kirby Marcantonio, who is organizing the effort, said in an announcement. “That number will only increase this fall as food prices increase, pushing even more families into insecurity.”

Through Nov. 14 bids will be accepted on prizes donated by Paul McCartney, Ina Garten, and Paul Simon; restaurants such as the American Hotel, Le Bilboquet, Lobster Roll, Duryea’s, and Fresno; cultural institutions including Guild Hall, Bay Street Theater, and the Hamptons International Film Festival; GeekHampton; Paddle Diva; Amagansett Beach and Bike; the Wolffer Estate and Channing Daughters wineries, and many more.

The auction is hosted by an online service called GalaBid and can be found at bit.ly/3Dt3cNm via smartphone or computer.

Time to Strip, Dip, Freeze

Polar plunges at Main Beach in East Hampton and Beach Lane in Wainscott on New Year’s Day accomplish many things: bracing and exhilarating starts to the year, the company of many hundreds of friends and fellow townspeople, and a chance to secure bragging rights that extend well into 2026. But most important, each serves as a critical fund-raiser for food pantries.

That led her to create Hamptons Community Outreach, which is dedicated to meeting basic critical needs to help break cycles of poverty.
