"Our lifelong friend Tommy Hupalowsky can use your help right now," Robin Goetz wrote on a GoFundMe fund-raising page last month.

Mr. Hupalowsky, a former East Hampton resident who worked for the Ben Krupinski Building company for many years, had relocated to Englewood, Fla., in 2016 with his wife of 35 years, Chris. Hurricane Helene on Sept. 26 flooded their house and destroyed their appliances and belongings, Ms. Goetz wrote.

To make matters worse, she said, five days later, Chris Hupalowsky died of lung cancer. Eight days after that, Hurricane Milton slammed Florida, further flooding the Hupalowskys' house.

He "lost everything he had left," Ms. Goetz, formerly of East Hampton and now living in Venice, Fla., wrote. "Any contribution would be a tremendous help for our dear friend."
