As of Tuesday afternoon, the American flamingo that first appeared at Georgica Pond on May 31 continued to draw bird lovers to East Hampton. In just the last week, over 100 birders trekked down the beach to view the bird and submit lists to eBird.

Jeremy Nadel, a retired high school art teacher, traveled from Brooklyn with Crystal Thiele, an elementary school science teacher, to see the huge pink bird. Mr. Nadel was able to get to East Hampton before the sun set and got some stunning shots of the wader in “golden hour” light. He described it as a serene moment.

Other eBird lists were humorous. One woman, recovering from hip replacement surgery, hobbled down the beach with her cane, resolving to see the bird. Despite the pain, she said it was worth it.
