Sag Harbor Village has much to offer, but one area it has been lacking in is the medical one, according to Dr. Ilona Polak, who will open a walk-in practice there sometime next month.

Sag Harbor Medical Walk-In will be at 34 Bay Street, in the building housing GeekHampton and the Sag Harbor Cycle Company.

“I love the village,” said Dr. Polak, who is leaving Wainscott Walk-In Medical Care to venture out on her own. “I do have a lot of people who come and see me from Sag Harbor in Wainscott, and they really don’t have a doctor, or a walk-in, in the village.”

The Amagansett Chamber of Commerce has named Dell Cullum, a photographer and wildlife removal specialist, as its first Person of the Year. Mr. Cullum, who was given the award at the chamber’s holiday open house at the 434 on Main guest house last Thursday, was recognized for outstanding service to the community.

Maria Suzanne Dayton and Nicholas Richard Nemecek of Washington, D.C., were married on Sept. 21 at East Hampton Point. Barbara Hansen officiated the ceremony, and a reception followed at the restaurant.

The bride, whose parents are Jonathan and Suzanne Dayton of East Hampton, is a marketing coordinator and in international sales at EDVOTEK. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Mary Washington College, where she graduated in 2004, and earned a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007. She graduated from East Hampton High School in 2000.

The Village of East Hampton is in sound fiscal order, the village board was told on Friday.

In delivering an annual summary to the board at its meeting on Friday, Michael Tomicich of the accounting firm Satty, Levine, and Ciacco gave an upbeat report on both the village’s budget and compliance with reporting standards.

Leftheri T. Syrianos, a son of Eleni Prieston of Sag Harbor, was awarded the Eagle Scout rank at a Court of Honor ceremony on Nov. 29 at the Breakwater Yacht Club. Mr. Syrianos joined the Cub Scouts at age 9 and now has achieved his Eagle Scout rank at 23. Diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, which makes communication difficult, he reached his goal through hard work, discipline, and the encouragement and support of family and friends.

Yaniris F. Vargas and Isaac A. Lopez were married on Saturday at 4 p.m. on Oakview Highway in East Hampton. East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky officiated.

Mr. Lopez, an East Hampton firefighter, is the son of the late Genara and Alcides Lopez. He has two children, Charlene Lopez of Puerto Rico and Isaac S. Lopez of Seattle, both of whom were at the ceremony Saturday. He studied custom engineering and works in maintenance at the East Hampton Town Senior Citizens Center.

An environmental engineering firm tasked with developing a water-quality management plan for the Hook Pond watershed area should be selected by next month. 

Becky Molinaro, the East Hampton Village administrator, delivered an update on the Hook Pond Water Quality Improvement Project to the village board at a brief work session last Thursday. The initiative is a collaboration with the town, the East Hampton Town Trustees, and community organizations.

In the wake of highly publicized police shootings of young African-American men, and the subsequent refusal of grand juries to indict the officers involved, a silent vigil for racial justice will happen tomorrow from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Bridgehampton war memorial. Those in attendance plan to hold placards with the name of a victim of such incidents.

Emily Christine Ward, the daughter of Christine and Mark Ward of East Hampton, and Michael Albert Bunce, a son of Joanne Bunce of Water Mill and Michael Bunce Sr. of Lady Lake, Fla., were married on Oct. 25 under a beautiful blue sky at Giorgio’s in Baiting Hollow.

It was on Ditch Plain Beach in Montauk that Shannon Luckey and Joe Guglielmo became engaged on Nov. 22. Ms. Luckey is a daughter of Tom and Joanne Luckey of Montauk and Wantagh. She teaches math at Discovery High School in the Bronx and is a graduate of Colgate University and New York University

Mr. Guglielmo is a guidance counselor at Xavier High School in Manhattan and graduated from Fordham University and Hofstra University. His parents are John and Claire Guglielmo of Wantagh.

Pio Lombardo, an environmental engineer with the consulting firm of Lombardo Associates, visited the Montauk Citizens Advisory Committee on Monday to discuss upgrades within the hamlet to address water-quality problems.

With the departure of Dr. Anthony Knott from the Montauk office of the Meeting House Lane Medical Practice, Dr. Lara DeSanti-Siska and Dr. Elizabeth White-Fricker of Meeting House Lane’s Wainscott office, will each work one day a week in Montauk until a full-time doctor is hired.

Jay Levine, a Montauk resident, Southampton Hospital board member, and health care consultant with ECG Management Consultants, issued a strategic plan for coverage in the office in the coming months.

After several attempts to continue operating, Montauk’s only movie theater will close its doors for good on Monday.

The utility poles have been treated with pentachlorophenol, a wood preservative that is restricted to use in utility poles and railroad ties in the United States.

Roy and Lori Dalene of Woodbine Drive in Springs have announced the marriage of their daughter Jessica Sue Dalene to David Michael Weber of Erie, Pa., on Oct. 4.

The couple were married at the East Hampton Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Nancy Howarth. They were attended by the bride’s sister, Amy Dalene of East Hampton and Santa Barbara, Calif., as maid of honor, and the groom’s cousin Daniel Weber of Santa Barbara as best man. The reception was held at the Maidstone Club in East Hampton.

Bruce Tait, a longtime member of the Sag Harbor Village Harbor Committee, resigned from that committee, not because of his recent demotion from its chairmanship, he said, but because the committee isn’t focused on the issues he finds important.

In an email to Mayor Brian Gilbride and the village board on Nov. 5, Mr. Tait said he was stepping down due to personal and professional commitments. The board accepted his resignation at a meeting on Nov. 12.

The East Hampton Rotary will honor Doug Mercer, the founder of the East Hampton Wellness Foundation, as the club’s person of the year at a Dec. 1 dinner at East by Northeast restaurant in Montauk. Tickets are $30 and can be reserved by phoning Conrad Costanzo of Surfside Avenue in Montauk. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Volunteer firefighters and wildlife rescuers worked together last Thursday to free a trapped deer from a generator pit at Steven Speilberg's house in East Hampton.

Richard and Karen Brown of Washington Avenue in Montauk have announced the engagement of their son, Richard Stuart Brown III, to Rebecca Lynn Harder. Ms. Harder’s parents are Dale and Sandra Harder of Sioux Falls, S.D.

 The couple met while working together at the Second House Tavern in Montauk. They live in Charleston, S.C., where they will be married on Nov. 6, 2015, at the Pepper Plantation.

Mayor Paul F. Rickenbach Jr. of East Hampton Village is on an indefinite leave of absence for medical reasons. The mayor announced his leave, effective yesterday, at the conclusion of the village board’s work session last Thursday. He is to undergo knee-replacement surgery.

“I am going to turn the reins over to our deputy mayor, Barbara Borsack, who with her colleagues will make sure that everything is done with due diligence,” Mr. Rickenbach said. “Hopefully I’ll be back on the scene sooner than later.”

The community is raising money to support two children orphaned last week when their mother, Darcy Rodriguez, died of cancer at the age of 48.

Colin Rodriguez, 13, and Katalina Rodriguez, 11, are being cared for by one of Ms. Rodriguez’s longtime friends, Carla Gagliotti of East Hampton, which had been their mother’s wish. Ms. Rodriguez was diagnosed with lung cancer in September, by which time it had metastasized, leaving little time to make plans. 

Since the Rev. Thomas Patrick Murray arrived in Montauk on June 25 as the new parish priest at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, he has made quite a few new friends. He credits the Monsignor, a chubby yellow Labrador retriever, for that. “Everyone greets the Monsignor,” he said from his new office at the parish center.

The long drawn-out process by which the Maidstone Club received approval to upgrade and expand the irrigation system on its golf course was concluded on Friday when the East Hampton Village Zoning Board of Appeals announced its satisfaction with 10 conditions it had attached to its approval in July. Two of the conditions required additional submissions.

Those arriving at the Montauk Firehouse on Sunday for the political debate sponsored by Concerned Citizens of Montauk had no doubt that State Senator Lee Zeldin was going to be there. Dozens of Zeldin for Congress signs were being waved at the entrance and a big bus in the parking lot carried the message. Once inside, the audience was peppered by those wearing Zeldin for Congress T-shirts. The event was well attended, with more than 100 prospective voters on hand.

Ghosts and goblins, not to mention princesses and Spider-Men, have plenty of places to go in the coming week. With All Hallows’ Eve falling on a Friday this year, there are two entire weekends chock full of frightful gatherings and trick-or-treating.

A Montauk couple playing the New York Lottery’s Break the Bank scratch-off game last week did just that when they purchased a $1 million winning ticket from a vending machine at Montauk Wine and Liquors.

On Saturday, hiking enthusiasts will mark South Fork Trails Day with a presentation about the more than 200 miles of trails in East Hampton Town.

Describing a summer on the beaches characterized by few serious mishaps, a lack of unruly crowds, and no extreme weather, Ed McDonald, the East Hampton Village beach manager, said, “Dull is good,” as he summarized the season’s activities and revenue at a village board meeting Friday. He noted that no one had drowned and said the Main Beach lifeguards, led by Eric Bramoff, deftly and professionally handled two incidents in which bathers suffered neck injuries.

October in East Hampton is officially Recycling Awareness Month. During this inaugural observation, the East Hampton recycling and litter committee has a bevy of activities to raise awareness about the benefits of recycling.
