The seventh-seeded West Islip Lions came in loaded for bear here Thursday afternoon, hoping that, somehow, they could upset the county Class AA tournament’s second seed, East Hampton. But, despite the fact that the visitors contested every ball, and pretty much matched the Bonackers when it came to corner kicks and free kicks, East Hampton emerged the winner, by 1-0, and will play third-seeded Huntington here Monday.

Lois Erdmann Wright, who had close relationships with Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale and her daughter, "Little Edie" of Grey Gardens fame, was "an intimate witness to the eccentricities of aristocracy," according to her family. Ms. Wright, an author and longtime LTV host, died of cardiopulmonary arrest and failure to thrive on Oct. 13 at the Hamptons Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Southampton. A nearly lifelong resident of East Hampton, she was 95.

Facing continued criticism from teaching assistants over what they say are unfairly low salaries — wages they also say were lowered without warning this year — the Springs School District has begun negotiating raises with the teaching assistants’ union, a year ahead of the usual schedule, while also performing a full audit of employee payroll.

Suffolk County officials have delayed a plan to introduce an on-demand bus service zone to replace two East Hampton-area buses, the 10B and 10C, because of a manufacturer’s recall of the buses themselves.

Seven of the nine incumbent East Hampton Town Trustees, six of them Democrats and one a Republican with Democratic cross-endorsement, are seeking re-election on Nov. 7. Altogether, there are 12 people running for the nine seats, including three Republican challengers, one Democrat, and one other cross-endorsed candidate.

This winter, the East Hampton Village Department of Public Works plans to shift hedgerows and remove a chain-link fence that separates a parcel at 8 Muchmore Lane from the neighboring Herrick Park. When the work is complete, village officials said, it will have the effect of making the park appear larger, as the lot has been hidden from view and inaccessible.
