Denison Yacht’s New Digs

Denison Yacht Sales has announced that the Montauk Yacht Club will be the site of its newest office. Joe Laundrie, a Denison yacht broker and Long Island native, will head the Montauk branch, which will specialize in selling large motor yachts and sportfishing yachts.

The Montauk Yacht Club has a 232-slip “mega yacht” marina that can accommodate vessels of up to 225 feet in length with a 12-foot maximum draft.

“Fashion is fickle,” she said recently, “and it ages very fast. I like things that are more permanent.” She chooses her merchandise for its quality and timeless appeal. Many garments are handmade, including pricey cashmere sweaters from the luxury brand The Elder Statesman, and hand-knit rugs.

The gold rush began in earnest in the fall of 2007, Ed Dressler, the general manager of the London Jewelers store in East Hampton, said last week. The stock market went into freefall at about the same time as the real estate bubble burst. “We bought more gold in one month than we did in the previous 12 years, combined,” he said. “People were going through their things, finding that they had money sitting there.”

Diana Ross, the executive store director of White’s Apothecary, as it is now called, is pleased with the revamped space, which is now equipped for in-store facials, makeup application, hair consultations, and brow tinting and shaping. Rejuvenated, Old White’s Is New Again

    The new White’s in some ways looks older than the old White’s, which is a good thing. When the new owners, Nyco Chemists, purchased White’s Pharmacy, which had been a mainstay of East Hampton’s Main Street since 1873, they did what every new homeowner in the Hamptons seems to do: Gutted the place. The result is a fine-looking store combining old details such as a stamped tin ceiling and an antique-y logo mosaic on the front entrance. The new owners, who added the drugstore to their portfolio of two others in August, also gave it a vintage name by rechristening it White’s Apothecary.

Wake-Up Call for New Shop

    When Beth Lee Schlendorf purchased a memory foam mattress a couple of years ago, she had no idea that it would spark an idea to start a business. The synthetic slab, which she later discovered comprised more than 60 chemicals, was so smelly that she was warned by the store she purchased it from to air it out for between 24 and 48 hours. When she began to get headaches she was struck by the idea that she and her family were spending a third of their lives sleeping on a possibly toxic soup. It was a wake-up call that put her on a mission to find out what mattresses are made of.
