A Night in Provence
Next Thursday, Nick and Toni's in East Hampton will hold a wine pairing dinner featuring French cuisine with tastings of vintages from Provence in southern France.
The dinner starts with hors d'oeuvres of foie gras torchon, cherry gastrique, and brioche; panisse with aioli fume Provencal; jambon rouleaux de chevre, and oysters on the half shell, which will be served with a Cotes de Provence rose. The first course is a savory clafoutis with tomato, frisee, lardon, and quail egg served with a cassis blanc. Duck breast, sweet peas, and carrots is the second course with a Les Baux de Provence rouge. The main course is milk-fed pork, ratatouille, and olive tapenade served with a Bandol rouge.
For dessert, a cheese plate with French goat, sheep, and raw cow milk cheeses served with hazelnuts, rhubarb jam, and nougat petite fours is matched with Beaumes-de-Venise muscat.
The meal will be served from 6 to 9 p.m. and cost $150 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Wines offered during the dinner will also be available for purchase with special pricing through Jacques Franey of Domaine Franey in Amagansett. Reservations can be made through the restaurant's website.
Rolls on Wheels
The Shinnecock Lobster Factory in Southampton will take its lobster rolls on the road this summer with its Lobster Roll Food Truck, which will be available throughout the East End.
The truck will serve six different types of rolls in recipes interpreted by the Lobster Factory chef Marco Barilla and in three different sizes -- guppy, shark, and whale. The poached lobster meat is served on buttered and toasted brioche buns that are baked locally. Crab cakes and sea burgers are also options, along with various sides.
Available for private parties and events, the concession can be reached for bookings at 631-259-3334. The factory and food truck will list upcoming appearances on their Instagram and Facebook accounts as well.
Also on the Road
Ted Kenny's Top Hops Beer Shop will park its tap truck, the Half Pint, on the East End this summer.
The three-wheeled Piaggio Ape Classic scooter designed by Vespa has six taps and will be available for parties and events. It was designed at the end of World War II to travel on narrow Italian roads and deliver light items.
Retrofitted as a mobile bar, it will serve artisanal draft beer chosen to match each party or event. It can be used at parties, corporate events, beer tasting classes, or a more intimate backyard barbecue and comes with drinkware and bartenders knowledgeable about the different types of beer being served.
Top Hops has several distinct beer packages across a broad range of tastes. Endless Summer was designed for seasonal backyard and beach parties. Globe-Trotter highlights craft brewed imports. The company offers partnerships with food brands like King Andrew's mobile cheese shop or Rolling in Dough pizza truck. There are wine, champagne, and cider options as well.
"With my access to thousands of beers, if you have an open mind, I can find a beer you will love," Mr. Kenny said.
How Dry I Am
Citarella has added a dry-aging case to its store in Southampton, giving shoppers a chance to view the progress as the beef in it ages in a temperature-controlled environment over a 21-day period.
Aging beef is thought by fans to impart a "rich flavor and juicy tenderness," according to the gourmet store. Citarella has been aging its beef for many years, but now the store is offering a front-row view of a 10-foot-high case that can hold up to 600 pounds of meat.
Sunday Funday
The weekend won't end on Sunday this summer at Elaia Estiatorio in Bridgehampton. The Greek restaurant's Santorini Sundays will offer a D.J. spinning tunes and late specials from 8 p.m. until midnight. An after-hours menu, Midnight Mezzes, will include spreads, chips, meatballs, and other bites along with featured cocktails and special house pours for $15.
