The driver of an eastbound 2017 Mercedes-Benz and his passenger were taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital on Nov. 14 after their car veered sharply off Montauk Highway on the Napeague stretch, crashed into several trees, and rolled over near Shipwreck Lane.

Two blue five-gallon jugs of sulfuric acid were found on Nov. 15 on the side of the road near the intersection of Toilsome Lane and Dayton Lane.

Failing roadside sobriety tests, he was taken to headquarters, where a breath test produced a reading of .19 of 1 percent, high enough to raise the misdemeanor charge to the aggravated level. The sign on Route 114 guiding drivers to East Hampton Airport was found vandalized with spray paint on Friday. James Brundige, the manager, told police he had seen the sign free of graffiti two days earlier.

A former tenant, apparently trying to retrieve some possessions, damaged the door to one of the apartments at Hampton Mews on Montauk Highway at some time since August. The report was redacted, and no charges were filed.

Many deer-related accidents kept the East Hampton Town Police Department busy last week. No injuries, accept perhaps to the deer, resulted. Six of the collisions occurred in Montauk.

Reported in chronological order, the accidents began on Oct. 16. Jeanne M. Shelton of Southampton told police that while heading north on Route 114 near Hilltop Lane in East Hampton at around 4:40 p.m., a deer came out in front of her and she did not have enough time to stop before colliding with it.

Kenneth W. Kalbacher, 58, of East Hampton, was arrested on a drunken driving charge Saturday night, just one month after his prior case on driving while intoxicated charges had been plea-bargained down in East Hampton Town Justice Court. A 28-year-old from Nashville, with a history of drunken driving in Tennessee, was only in town over the weekend to attend a wedding with his parents and girlfriend, but now has to return to East Hampton Justice Court to answer felony drunken-driving charges.
