I-Tri, a nonprofit that runs free fitness and empowerment programs for adolescent girls, will celebrate its 16th year with a Sweet 16 Gala on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the LongHouse Reserve. Each year, I-Tri works with some 200 girls in schools here and elsewhere, training them to compete in a youth triathlon but also boosting their self-confidence, fostering positive body image, and promoting healthy lifestyle choices that they can carry with them into future endeavors.
Wednesday’s party runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include food from Silver Spoon Caterers, drinks from Channing Daughters Winery and Springs Brewery, and silent and chance auctions. Bidding has already begun online for trips to such destinations as Tuscany, Scotland, Costa Rica, and Croatia, golf outings, artworks, and landscaping materials. A link can be found at itrigirls.org.
Also at the gala, the nonprofit will celebrate 16 people who have been integral to the success of I-Tri. Among them: the cookie queen Kathleen King, Sharon McCobb, I-Tri’s longtime athletic director, former State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr., and Suffolk County Legislator Ann Welker. Tickets start at $250 and can be bought at bit.ly/4mVVt05.
