Concerned Citizens of Montauk celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Since its founding it has led the charge to preserve more than 3,500 acres in the hamlet, including such special places as Hither Woods, Shadmoor, Camp Hero, and the tract now known as Montauk County Park.

Prohibited from opening their facilities since the economic lockdown began four months ago, the owners of South Fork gyms, yoga studios, and other fitness centers have been scrambling to create outdoor venues, online classes, and other ways to keep their businesses going.

As this very different Fourth of July weekend begins, East Hampton Town has issued a reminder about regulations still in effect to stop the spread of Covid-19, particularly at its beaches.

In mid-April, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Suffolk County was reporting more than 1,000 new cases per day, but on Tuesday reported just 46 new cases. As the infection rate has slowed here, people concerned that they have been exposed to the virus are more likely to be tested at an outpatient lab, clinic, or doctor's office than at a drive-through test site, and the cost for testing can vary. 

A new fire department substation that has been under construction in the Northwest section of East Hampton is almost ready to open, East Hampton Fire Chief Gerard Turza Jr. told the East Hampton Village Board on Friday.

Tony Caramanico of Montauk was recently inducted into the East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame for "having made the most significant contributions to the sport, thereby preserving their historical significance and the sport's cultural lore for future generations."
