Multiple fire departments are battling a fire at a house on Willow Lane in Montauk, with crews from as far west as Southampton having been called in for help.

The polls had been closed for more than two hours when word was conveyed that there would be no further update to the Suffolk County Board of Elections' vote tally of East Hampton Town's 19 election districts, but the early vote totals indicated a clean sweep for Democrats. At nearly 1 a.m., when the board of elections website finally populated with all of East Hampton Town's unofficial numbers, those results held: The Democrats' candidates had won every contested town race from supervisor to town trustee.

The U.S. Department of Labor has ordered Dune Resorts and Ocean Bay Management, hotel management companies based in East Hampton, to pay $210,000 in back wages and penalties for violating terms of the H-2B guest worker visa program in 2017 and 2018.

Citing the highly transmissible Delta variant of Covid-19, East Hampton Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc announced Thursday that the town board will return to virtual meetings as of Tuesday. The variant "is significant within the community at this time. It’s spreading rapidly, and people need to really take this seriously,” he said.

Just a week into the fall sports season, one East Hampton High School football player has tested positive for Covid-19 and is in quarantine, the district announced Sunday morning.

Nurses and other members of the health care workers union at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital picketed on Thursday in an effort to get the hospital to agree to contract demands. The union's current contract ends on Sept. 30.

After several days of uncertain predictions, Tropical Storm Henri appeared on a path to make landfall in Rhode Island, sparing the East End the worst of its winds.

With Henri forecast to be "at or near hurricane strength" when it makes landfall on Long Island on Sunday, according to the National Hurricane Center, state of emergency declarations have been issued in East Hampton Town, East Hampton Village, Southampton Village, and Southampton Town.

As Henri heads toward Long Island, East Hampton Fire Department Chief Gerard Turza Jr. on Saturday announced the Main Beach fireworks show, originally slated for Saturday night, has been postponed "in the interest of public safety."

The National Hurricane Center in Miami, Fla., revised its prediction for the path of Tropical Storm Henri, projecting a Sunday morning landfall on Long Island. 

As of the 5 a.m. Saturday warning, Henri was expected to strengthen to a category-1 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 80 miles per hour.
