East Hampton Town police spent Tuesday morning investigating anonymous email threats received overnight by multiple school districts, including Springs, Amagansett, and Wainscott, and ultimately deemed them "non credible."

The mayoral election in Sag Harbor is June 20 and the race, or perhaps lack thereof, is becoming clearer. Last week, Mayor James Larocca announced in a staff meeting that he would not be seeking re-election, and on Monday, Thomas Gardella, the current deputy mayor, confirmed that he will be running for mayor.

The Sag Harbor School District announced plans late Wednesday to attempt an outright purchase of the properties on Marsden Street that have up to now been on the table for a joint purchase with Southampton Town, which held two lengthy public hearings on the matter over the last two weeks. 

In an email sent late Monday night to the Sag Harbor School District, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman pitched the idea of using C.P.F. money to buy development rights at Mashashimuet Park, which would then — in theory — be spent on renovations at the park.

A break in a water line discovered Sunday morning in East Hampton Village caused major flooding at a number of downtown businesses, including Tutto Caffe, Bonne Nuit, Valentino, and Gubbins. Efforts to pump out basements were stalled for nearly eight hours as PSEG struggled to shut down power to affected areas.

Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming announced Thursday that she will not seek re-election to the Second Legislative District this year, and that she is endorsing Ann Welker of the Southampton Town Trustees to succeed her in office on the Democratic ticket.

East Hampton Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc announced Friday that he will retire from public service at the end of this year, opting not to seek re-election to a fourth term. His deputy supervisor, Councilwoman Kathee Burke-Gonzalez, will seek the Democrats' nomination for supervisor.

Southampton Town is willing to make good on its offer of $6 million from the community preservation fund toward the joint purchase with the Sag Harbor School District of land on Marsden Street, but on at least three conditions.

In Suffolk County Criminal Court on Thursday, Marc Dern of Springs pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the Feb. 5, 2022, death of Kevin Somers, a friend and fellow Maidstone Club employee. 

“I am truly sorry for ruining your lives,” a tearful Daniel Campbell, the driver in an August 2021 hit-and-run that led to the death of Devesh Samtani, told a courtroom full of Mr. Samtani's friends and family at his sentencing hearing on Thursday. "The loss of your son’s life will be with me forever.”
