Had the Pleasure

    East Hampton

    March 5, 2012

Dear David,

On behalf of the East Hampton Day Care Learning Center I offer my sincere congratulations to the director, cast, and orchestra of the East Hampton High School production of “Anything Goes.” I had the pleasure of attending the Sunday matinee performance.

Affordable Project

    East Hampton

    February 27, 2012

Dear David:

Last week witnessed the formal groundbreaking of the St. Michael’s senior citizens affordable housing project. The leader of this extremely worthwhile undertaking is Michael DeSario, who has devoted countless hours over the last 10 years to the creation of needed, reasonably priced apartments for longtime East Hampton residents.

To Be Honored

    Springs

    February 17, 2012

David:

This past Wednesday, Feb. 15, a large group from East Hampton attended the reception given for Lee Hayes. The reception was given by the Riverhead Historical Society. The date and time of this event were well published in advance.

As most know, Lee is a Tuskegee airman — bombardier and pilot. He served at a time when racism was prevalent.

I would estimate the crowd attending numbered close to 200.

Nothing to Fear

    Springs

    February 10, 2012

Dear Editor,

I am the former managing editor of the New York Public Library, a book author, and an avid Kindle user of many years — so I read with interest Helen Rattray’s “Connections” column (Feb. 9) on her disenchantment with her Kindle and its possible threat to the traditional book. I continue to be surprised by the resistant view many serious readers take of the Kindle, even as it grows in popularity.

Tears of Joy

    Burnsville, N.C.

    February 6, 2012

To the Editor,

When we lived in East Hampton we knew it was one of the most beautiful places on earth. But the physical beauty is just the tip of the iceberg.

We wanted to thank our friends and neighbors for supporting us. Robert Curtis, who owned a leather-goods shop in East Hampton that eventually was known as Billy Martin, was in a devastating motorcycle accident last May.

Need to Name

    East Hampton

    January 30, 2012

Dear Editor,

Twenty years ago I formed the habit of taking frequent walks on what I now know to be the Debra Brodie Foster Trail in Two Holes of Water Park. Since then the head of the trail has blossomed with information. This began in 1995 with a small and discreet bronze plate set into a large rock honoring Ms. Foster’s largess.

Talented Performers

    East Hampton

    January 1, 2012

Dear David,

I would like to thank all of the talented performers who participated in the Young at Heart concert at St. Luke’s Church on Friday. The night was very successful due to the amazing musicians who sang and played their instruments. The audience that was present, as well as myself, were captivated and in awe for the entire show. It was a great reminder of how gifted our young people are. It was a night to remember and one that made me proud to be a member of St.

Pulled Together

    East Hampton

    January 7, 2012

Dear David,

A search-and-recovery operation does not just happen. We have well-trained people in the Springs Fire Department and East Hampton Town police and Sag Harbor dive teams. There were many rescuers on the water recently, and we should be proud of them all. But at this point I would like to talk about our marine patrol, dive team, and ocean rescue team.

Training that does not fall short when the emergency hits is not to be taken for granted.

Before I Knew

    East Hampton

    January 2, 2011

Dear David,

I just want to thank the person who found my pocketbook and gave it to a Waldbaum’s employee. I had it back even before I knew it was gone. You made my new year’s!

Great Honor

    Montauk

    December 12, 2011

Dear David,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Montauk Chamber of Commerce for selecting me for their person of the year. This has been a great honor to me and my family.

I would further like to thank all the friends and family that attended the Chamber’s end-of-the-season dinner last Thursday at ENE.

Money Is Hanging

    East Hampton

    December 5, 2011

To the Editor,

It emerges from news of a federal investigation that many paintings, that sold for as much as $17 million as the work of such East End artists as Jackson Pollock and Robert Motherwell, might well be fakes.
