Plum TV Bought at Auction

   Plum TV, the lifestyle television network that broadcasts in eight resort areas, including the East End, has been purchased by LXTV, another lifestyle broadcaster, following a bankruptcy auction held on March 1.

   LXTV’s co-founders, Joseph Varet and Morgan Hertzan, will serve as co-presidents of Plum, with offices in Los Angeles and New York City.

Summer Essentials in Sag Harbor

   Mark and Shannon Zucchero have added another store to their Flying Point Surf Shop holdings. The newest addition has opened on Main Street in Sag Harbor in the former Bikehampton space. Named the Flying Point Surf Shop Boutique, it offers women’s and children’s summer essentials as well as boots, and will eventually sell paddle boards. It is a few doors down from Flying Point in the Harbor, which sells primarily men’s clothing, as well as skateboards, surfboards, and accessories, and is attached to their sunglass store.

Bancorp’s Quarterly Dip

    Suffolk Bancorp, a one-bank holding company that operates Suffolk County National Bank, has released results for its recent fourth quarter, with comparisons to the fourth quarter of 2010.

    Key points include a decrease in earnings per share of 62.5 percent, to 12 cents, from the comparable period, and net income at $1,156,000, down 62.3 percent from $3,069,000 during the same period in the previous year.

    The net loss per share for the full year was down 101.2 percent, from the net income of $6,256,000 in 2010.

Sales Rose but Prices Dropped

   Is the glass half empty or half full? Reports presented from Suffolk Research Service and one of the East End’s real estate firms offer a nebulous view of whether the market is on the rise or still bouncing along the bottom.

    Although there was some improvement from the third quarter of 2011 to the final quarter, there was little to no improvement over all over the fourth quarter of 2010, according to George R. Simpson, the president of Suffolk Research Service.

Most Excellent Inn

    The votes are in, and Baker House 1650 on Main Street in East Hampton has been named the “most excellent inn” in the United States and Canada by Condé Nast Johansens international luxury travel guides. It is the third time that Baker House 1650 has been so named.

    The awards, in 28 categories, are given to luxury properties throughout the Americas, the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Caribbean and come from readers of the guides, hotel guests, and the Condé Nast Johansens team of inspectors.

After more than a decade, Kathleen Beckmann has taken down the business sign in front of her house and joined forces with Town and Country Real Estate. New Horizons for Realtor

Kathleen Beckmann started the new year by closing her real estate business, Kathleen Beckmann Real Estate, at her house on Essex Street at the east end of downtown Montauk and joining the office of Town and Country Real Estate on Main Street.

    When Judi Desiderio, who owns Town and Country, opened the Montauk location a little over two years ago, she said Monday that the first person she called to join her team was Ms. Beckmann. “I wasn’t ready,” Ms. Beckman said.

Plum TV Enters Bankruptcy

   Plum TV, the upscale cable channel that serves up light entertainment geared toward tourist and resort markets, announced on Jan. 3 that the company had filed for Chapter 11 protection in federal bankruptcy court for the Southern District of New York.

    The beleaguered company, which is based in Miami but operates a station on the South Fork and in seven other high-end markets in the United States, laid off 50 of its 85 employees across the country in September, hoping to avoid accumulating further debt while preserving the brand.

G­rowing up in Farmingdale with her parents and two brothers, Nora Kleps had the usual assortment of household pets — cats, dogs, parakeets, turtles — “anything you could buy at Woolworth’s,” she said. She also liked riding horses, but despite being drawn to animals she followed another path before eventually returning to school to become a veterinarian. It was only after becoming fluent in French, Italian, and Farsi that she became fluent in animal medicine.
