A Real Estate Bounce?

According to Town and Country, an East End real estate firm that provides detailed information from 11 different markets in the area,  some villages and towns have made notable jumps in sales, while some have stayed stable, and only two have not met the sales for the previous quarter.

Getting Fresh, Eh?

    Coming down on the fashion currents from Canada, Joe Fresh has opened a pop-up store on Main Street in East Hampton Village, featuring casual summer wear at reasonable prices.

    This is Joe Fresh’s first store in the United States, although the brand is well known, with 300 stores up north.

    Although the local branch of the shop will only be open until the end of the summer, a more permanent store is set to open in New York City this fall.

Printery Trunk Show

    The Elegant Setting, a shop on Main Street in Southampton, will itself be the setting of a trunk show on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. featuring the Printery, a company based in Oyster Bay that uses hand-engraving and the letterpress process to create announcements and notepapers of all kinds.

    Customers on Saturday will receive a mixed box of eight engraved note cards and envelopes along with a $50 gift certificate that can be applied to any personalized purchase during the year.

    Made, a store that recently opened on Race Lane in East Hampton, will hold a summer soirée on Saturday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The shop, owned by Eleni Preston, a longtime Sag Harbor resident and artist, sells “items functional and beautiful, original and reclaimed, from around the world.” Because Ms. Preston works with many artisans in different mediums, the inventory changes frequently.

Cursive East End

    Cursive, which has two stores in New York City, has launched an outpost at Amagansett Square.

    The shop, co-owned by Michael Schultz, Douglas Duncan, and a long-haired dachshund named Noodle, sells fine papers, jewelry, and “curiosities.”

    According to its Web site, Cursive opened originally “in the hopes of bringing some wonder and excitement to the mostly sedate world of fine paper.”

    The Amagansett shop will be open every day.

The new shop, dubbed the Gallery at East Hampton, will offer “an artful expression of home furnishings in a gallery setting,” according to material from the company, which promises “a complete re-conceptualization of the shopping experience.”

Bank Announced Loss

    Suffolk Bancorp, the parent company of Suffolk County National Bank, announced a loss for the first quarter of 2011, with a loss-per-share of $1.33, in comparison to earnings of 16 cent during the same period last year. The net loss was $12.8 million, compared to the net income in 2010’s first quarter of $1.53 million, according to a press release issued by the company last week.
